Roger McGough at the River Room.
‘A voice of calm in a world of madness,’ poet, broadcaster and performer, Roger McGough opens the new Riverside studios River Room. 85 years-old and at that awkward age between birth and death, Roger takes to the floor with a funny, sad and moving show featuring new poems as well as old favourites.
Roger McGough has published over 100 poetry books for adults and children. Called ‘the patron saint of poetry’, he was one of the Liverpool Poets, who influenced popular culture in the Sixties and published The Mersey Sound, one of the bestselling poetry anthologies of all time. In the 60’s along with John Gorman, and Mike McGear he formed The Scaffold, performing a combination of comic songs, poetry and sketches including the hit song ‘Lily the Pink’ and ‘Thank You Very Much’.
