Made at Riverside Studios between 1964 and 1968, Doctor Who is one of the world’s most successful and enduring television programmes. In 2023, the programme turns sixty and, in the run-up to the anniversary in November, we are screening Riverside-filmed episodes every other month. This time, we present two episodes from the sixth serial of the second season ‘The Crusade’, in which the TARDIS materialises in 12th century Palestine at the time of the Third Crusade. Both episodes star William Hartnell as the First Doctor and co-star Julian Glover as Richard the Lionheart.
Following the sell-out success of March's TIME & RIVERSIDE Doctor Who event, we are thrilled to be working once again with the Doctor Who Appreciation Society to celebrate this science-fiction classic. The event includes guest Q&As in the cinema following the episode screenings, and separate from the cinema activity will be autograph panels and a photo studio with the special guests in the foyer (please note separate payment will be required for autographs and photographs - the cinema ticket is not inclusive of these).
Confirmed special guests:
Julian Glover CBE (Richard The Lionheart). Julian has numerous stage, TV and film credits to his name. His most famous film roles include The Empire Strikes Back, For Your Eyes Only and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He has appeared in many cult TV shows such as The Avengers and Game Of Thrones.
Cleo Sylvestre MBE (Concubine). Cleo has an extensive career in film, stage and television. She released a single with the Rolling Stones as her backing band and was a regular in soap Crossroads from 1970-1972.
Maureen Lane (Lady in Waiting). Maureen has appeared in a number of classic TV shows and films such as Octopussy. She played several roles in 1960s Doctor Who, including the Majorettes Leader in The Macra Terror.
