Movement Workshop for Actors
India and Naomi met years ago in a black box theatre at college and bonded over mutual laugh-cries frantically trying to string together a 2-minute piece for their A level dance exam! Their friendship remained, underpinned by their shared interests which have subsequently pushed them down different paths with a mutual foundation, India headed for the acting and physical theatre world and Naomi into the movement and choreography world. Both practitioners believe deeply in the relationship between emotion, character and movement.
India has worked across stage, screen and theatre, combining speech with high physicality and astute characterisation. Their creative explorations have led them to work with the likes of renowned company Nonsuch Theatre (where they co-devised a physicalised version of Chekov’s Three Sisters,) FoolMoon Collective, and have also choreographed at the prestigious Soho Theatre, whereby they combined aspects of traditional Edwardian dance with a commercial edge to create something whacky and hilarious for the wonderful Rosalie Minnitt. India regularly works with young people at Lewisham Youth Theatre to develop their physical, emotional and creative practice. India is soon to perform at Move It 2026, stage their own play, The Bad Thing with their acclaimed company Junk Theatre (offie-nominated, winners of Fuse Festival 2024) and complete an advanced residency with Frantic Assembly.
Naomi finds that synergy between text and movement has continuously influenced and inspired her practice. This interest underpinned her first public work which premiered at Resolution Festival 2023, described as “original, intricate, musical, expansive” (Matthew Paluch). Her continuous passion towards connecting people with movement has manifested in various leadership roles; from leading workshops at Primary Schools in Enfield, to teaching professional classes. She movement directed on various projects, notably the play, PALACE, which premiered at Peckham Fringe (May 2025). Naomi’s performance career has spanned a breadth of locations and venues; she has performed in the opera, Macbeth, at The Royal Opera House, at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, and has continuously worked with the Company Mobius Dance- bringing her to venues and stages in Italy.
Our workshop will push you creatively, emotionally and physically, with the ultimate goal of helping actors discover new and effective tools to unlock deeper characterization and emotional embodiment. We will experiment with movement as an entry point to transforming one’s physical self and create a holistic investment in circumstance. We will use movement tasks to find different physical states; allowing emotion and character to be processed and flow through the body, and ultimately make us more attuned to its power in conveying a story. We also welcome movement professionals and dancers who wish to incorporate character more deeply in their practice. Most importantly, it will be VERY fun!
