HARD BOILED
"Woo has elevated the action movie into the realm of art" - Empire
John Woo’s genre defining film HARD BOILED, beautifully restored in 4K from the original negative, blasts back into cinema from March 2026 and forms one of the centrepiece films of Riverside Studios April HONG KONG THRILLS classic film season!
Largely unavailable to western audiences for the last 30 years, HARD BOILED is a stone cold classic, which mixes balletic actions sequences, emotional resonance with a dash of doves in slow motion! With a death count in the triple figures, more firepower you can shake an Uzi at and action sequences that most Hollywood directors would be jealous of, HARD BOILED is John Woo's masterpiece.
Hard Boiled is often regarded as one of the greatest action films ever made with its influence extending well beyond Hong Kong cinema, impacting Hollywood action films and directors in the decades since its release in 1992. Hard Boiled is seen as a precursor to the modern action genre, influencing filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino and the Wachowskis, who have cited Woo's work as a significant influence on their own films. When asked by a studio executive whether John Woo could shoot action sequences, Quentin Taratino replied "Of course, and Michaelangelo can paint ceilings!"
