DAVID HARE: PROTECTING THE PLAYING SPACE
Join the multi-award winning playwright Sir David Hare in conversation with SCRUM's Artistic Director Lucie Dawkins, as they discuss the state of play for theatre making in the UK, and dream of the conditions needed to make sure creatives thrive in the face of an arts crisis. From the Portable Theatre Company to Joint Stock, and from the Royal Court to the National Theatre, Sir David Hare has spent nearly six decades reinventing and reimagining the ways in which theatre can be made.
David Hare was described by the Washington Post as “the premiere political dramatist writing in English.” In 1997 the French government honoured him as an Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres, and in 1998 the British knighted him for services to the theatre. In a millennial poll of the greatest plays of the 20th century, five of the top 100 were his.
