About the Artist
“The Art School Dance Goes on Forever”
Chris Lucas has lived and worked in Fulham for over 40 years. Born in Southampton, he came of age during a period of rapid economic and social change. After leaving school in 1968, and inspired by influences ranging from Jackson Pollock and Jimi Hendrix to European art cinema, beat poetry and psychedelia, he went on to study at Canterbury College of Art (1969–1972).
Under the inspiring leadership of Thomas Watt, Lucas experienced a dynamic art school environment, learning alongside and from a wide range of visiting artists and tutors. It was here that he developed a lasting connection to his creative “inner mojo,” supported by fellow students and collaborators.
Since leaving art school, Lucas has led a richly varied life as a painter, drummer, chef, teacher, sailor, furniture painter, set painter, traveller, husband, father, and most recently, a grandad. Throughout it all, drawing and mark-making have remained a constant.
Chris Lucas is currently a painter of pictures.
