Fight Performance for Theatre

Sun 11 Jan 2026 13:00

Led by Lucy Wordsworth

Join Lucy for a dynamic and engaging introduction to Basic Unarmed Stage Combat, perfect for performers of all levels. This workshop will cover essential techniques including pushes, slaps and knaps, punches, kicks, falls, strangles, and hair pulls, all taught in a safe, supportive, and informal environment.

The session begins with fun warm-up games and movement exercises to help everyone relax and get physically ready. You'll then learn fundamental combat principles such as distance, eye contact, and clear partner communication. Techniques are explored through partner work, with staggered breaks to keep energy levels high. Participants may also work with short theatrical texts to give the movements dramatic context, and the workshop wraps up with a creative choreography challenge, crafting short fight scenes in small groups. An informal showing is optional for those who’d like to share their work.

Since graduating from East 15 Acting School with First Class Honours in BA Acting & Stage Combat, Lucy Wordsworth has worked across Acting, Fight/Action Performing, Fight Directing, and Teaching. A highly physical performer with a background in Dance, Musical Theatre, and Movement, she combines these skills with a strong focus on storytelling. Her work includes projects with Box Clever Theatre, Stink Films, Marvel Studios, HBO, and Netflix.

Lucy’s Fight Directing credits span theatre and film, including Poltergeist Theatre’s Offie-nominated Alice in Wonderland (Brixton House), Don’t Smoke In Bed (VAULT Festival), and projects for Met Film School, Ginger Whisker, and Fusion Media House. Passionate about accessibility in stage and screen combat, Lucy regularly leads workshops for youth-focused companies such as Zoo Co Theatre, Full House Theatre, West End On Demand, and Good Wolf People, and has assisted for Box Clever Theatre and Master At Arms.
