We welcomed the Cast and Creative Team to Riverside earlier this week and we chatted about what makes KILLING THE CAT a ‘must see show’….

Director, Jenny Eastop, kicked things off by saying that “Killing the Cat is, for me, a show for our times”.  She went on to say “It’s about a world where there is no longer room for debate - where it’s like it’s just ‘us’ or ’them’.  Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?”

Caroline Underwood, Producer, agreed and said, “There’s a line in the show that goes, "There's too much certainty...too much certainty in the world.” We’ve all been saying that’s exactly how the world feels right now."

Warner Brown, who wrote the Book and Lyrics for the show added “We’ve been having lots of discussion in the rehearsal room about the role of a young man in today’s society. Connor wants to appear strong and resilient but underneath he's falling apart.  Although we’ve been working on this show for a little while, it just feels so timely, right now”.

We asked the team what audiences should expect from the show when they come to Riverside to see it.  Molly Lynch, who plays Heather, said "The music is as if Adam Guettel (Light in the Piazza) and Tom Waits had a baby.”.

Joaquin Pedro Valdes, who plays Connor, added, “This is musical theatre like you’ve never seen before.  If you’re passionate - like we all are - about pushing the limits of musical theatre and having the courage to try entirely new things, then this is the show for you!”.

Jenny agreed and added, “And to have such an amazing cast - including our leads Madalena Alberto and Tim Rogers - going on this new and exciting journey with us is just the icing on the cake!”.

And with that, the coffee break was over and the team headed back to Studio 3 to prepare for this weekend’s preview performances.
