Primetime

PRIMETIME stars Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, the host of Dateline NBC's To Catch a Predator, the mid-2000s sting show where adult decoys posing as teenagers lured men to a suburban house and Hansen strolled out to confront them on camera. It was a ratings sensation in the US, and the format now thrives on TikTok, where predator-hunting videos do enormous numbers. Grim stuff, and compulsive, and the audience is already there.

Lance Oppenheim, making his narrative feature debut, picks Hansen up at the show's peak, as his appetite for ratings drives his crew towards increasingly risky scenarios in order to please his audience. It’s a gripping thriller with a real horror streak underneath.

The film world premiered in competition at Venice to much acclaim and career best reviews for Pattinson, fresh from huge business over the last few months on THE ODYSSEY and THE DRAMA. He's now firmly in the Best Actor conversation, and Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers are all excellent alongside him.
