RIVERSIDE STUDIOS AT 50: Leigh Lawson - Now & Then + In Conversation
Having appeared in Riverside’s very first in-house production – The Cherry Orchard – in 1978, we are delighted to welcome actor, writer and director Leigh Lawson back to Riverside Studios for what will be our final 50th anniversary event.
Leigh has played leading roles for the RSC, the National Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway.
In this special performance, he will share his captivating poetry and, in conversation with season curator Daniel Thurman, reveal the remarkable stories which inspired them.
Published in the collection Now & Then, Leigh’s funny, moving and quietly profound poems explore memory, resilience and the unexpected ways we find meaning in the lives we’ve lived. They also trace a fascinating journey from a difficult childhood to a celebrated career, which includes principal roles in over twenty feature films including Brother Sun, Sister Moon (dir. Franco Zeffirelli), Love Among the Ruins (dir. George Cukor), The Devil’s Advocate (dir. Guy Green), Tess (dir. Roman Polanski), Madame Sousatzka (dir. John Schlesinger), Being Julia (dir. István Szabó), and Casanova (dir. Lasse Hallström). His many television appearances include leading roles in the series Travelling Man (Granada), Kinsey (BBC) and Disney’s Stick with Me, Kid; plus numerous mini-series’ and films, both in the England and America.
Leigh's book Now & Then will be available for purchase and signing by the author after the event.
