Wed 21 Oct 2026 19:15

This rehearsed reading is brought to you by CULTIVATE, Riverside Studios' new programme bringing the best of brand-new theatre to the stage for the first time. These plays have been carefully selected by Riverside Studios team as showing exceptional promise.

Exploring themes of motherhood, the cost of immigration and the invisible labour of family care, The Other Half is one woman's attempt to break the cycle. Or at the very least, bend it. The Other Half is a story about Lola, a British-Nigerian woman, who has never told her husband Chris, the truth about her older sister Toyin. When Lola's mother dies, she travels to Nigeria to meet the sister she has not seen in thirty years, a disabled woman left behind when the family emigrated and whom Lola allowed Chris to believe was dead. Her decision to make it right has far-reaching consequences for their marriage.

Age recommendation: 12+
