Mrs Macbeth

Sat 2 - Thu 14 Jan 2027

If you hear everything and say nothing, does that make you complicit?

In the aftermath of Macbeth’s rule, explanations are being demanded from those closest to the murderous couple. Margaret - Lady Macbeth’s gentlewoman, who happens to share her last name - is questioned by a faceless interrogator. As she makes her case and restages key moments, will the invisible judge – and we, the audience – find her innocent or guilty?

Tragic, unsettling, and unexpectedly funny, Mrs Macbeth is a new solo show that tackles Shakespeare’s tragedy with thrilling insight, exploring the complexities of integrity in dark times.

Susanna Hamnett is a multi-award-winning actor and writer, whose two previous plays (Nearly Lear, Hotel Elsinore) have received  international praise. Both plays have toured across the UK and the United States and enjoyed successful runs at Riverside Studios. In 2024 Nearly Lear was awarded Best Show at the Riverside Studios Bitesize Festival.

Mrs Macbeth is the newest play featuring Susanna’s uniquely personal way of relating to Shakespeare’s tragedies. Directed by Joshua MacGregor (Hotel Elsinore), Mrs Macbeth had its premiere at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and will tour to the US in the autumn of 2027.
