Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley makes subtle human dramas which explore love, relationships, and memory with sensitivity and nuance.
Following the release of her latest feature, the Oscar-nominated WOMEN TALKING, Invisible Women are taking the opportunity revisit one of Polley’s best loved films.
In Stories We Tell, Polley turns the camera on her own family in an attempt to uncover memories of her mother, who died when the filmmaker was a child. Weaving together interviews, anecdotes and archive, Polley constructs a multi-faceted, sometimes contradictory portrait of a complicated woman – exposing a long-held secret about her own identity in the process.
This special screening has been co-curated by Invisible Women and will feature an exclusive video introduction from Rachel Pronger.
Invisible Women is an archive activist film collective which champions the work of woman and filmmakers with marginalised identities from the history of cinema through screenings, events and editorial.
