In anticipation of the return of beloved British director Mike Leigh to cinemas with the 31st January release of his highly-praised drama HARD TRUTHS, Riverside studios will be celebrating a select few films from his filmography, and some of the brilliant actresses they showcase, across our classic Sunday and Silver Screen slots across the month! Curator Andy Willis will be providing his incisive introductions to all shows.
LIFE IS SWEET
Andy (Jim Broadbent) is a professional chef and DIY enthusiast who buys a decrepit burger van. His wife Wendy (Alison Steadman) helps out with the launch of a Parisian-themed restaurant, The Regret Rien. One daughter, Nicola (Jane Horrocks), suffers from bulimia and is obsessed with men and Marxism, while the other, Natalie (Claire Skinner), is an apprentice plumber who dreams of escaping to America.
