ReFocus Method – One Day Intensive
In this one-day intensive, you’ll dive into acting as a craft through the ReFocus Method. Grounded in modern neuroscience, the method explores the connection between emotion and muscular tension, helping you handle mental noise and maintain focus in a clear, practical way. It provides tools not only for preparation but also for direct use in performance.
The ReFocus Method encourages actors to remain curious and exploratory, finding ease rather than forcing or relying solely on psychological approaches. It challenges you to be concrete and clear in what you communicate. Originally developed in Sweden by Tony Grahn, building on the teachings of Andris Blekte, the method has since been refined into a hands-on craft.
About Jasper de Bruijn
Jasper de Bruijn is an acting coach from the Netherlands, where he teaches at the MA Film Acting programme in Amsterdam. He has extensive experience working across Europe and Africa, has trained in a wide range of acting techniques, and became a certified ReFocus Method teacher in 2018. He is currently co-developing a handbook on the ReFocus Method with Tony Grahn and pursuing research at the University of Birmingham to further anchor this approach.
The Workshop
This one-day intensive will be tailored to the needs of the group. The framework is the ReFocus Method, with space to take side steps where useful. You will begin with the basics of the approach and gradually build towards applying it in rehearsal, on stage, or on set.
Participants are asked to prepare a monologue. This is not about delivering a perfect performance, but about having material to explore in practice — ideally something you have not worked on before.
