Paul Newman is Butch Cassidy and Robert Redford is the Sundance Kid in this 1969 western. Based loosely on fact, it follows the infamous outlaws' final few months as they flee the American law and head to Bolivia in search of a more lucrative criminal career.
Set in the 1890s, Butch – the quick-witted leader of their outlaw gang – and his closest companion, the dead-shot Sundance, attempt a robbery of yet another train. Anticipating the hijack, the railroad boss hires the best trackers in the business to finally end the crime spree. After being tailed for miles, Butch and Sundance decide it's time to try their luck in South America. Taking Sundance’s lover (Katharine Ross) with them, their new life in Bolivia is cut short when the trackers finally catch up with them.
The winner of four Academy Awards, this marked the first teaming of stars Newman and Redford with director George Roy Hill. They would reunite again for 1973’s The Sting.
