Creators are often encouraged to work interdisciplinarily and collaborate with different sectors. However, working across these communities is not always fun and easy. Each discipline and sector develop at times certain ways of doing things, values, and what we may call cultures of knowledge. How a software engineer thinks about a topic or a piece is different from how, for example, a traditional actor, a drag performer, clown, visual artist, producer or local council representative might think about it.
In this workshop we will explore the cultures of knowledge we belong to, what they bring to our practice and how to deal with challenges of interdisciplinary and intersectoral work in creating performance art. The workshop explores Knowledge Boundary Crossing Competence (KBCC) rooted in social sciences research to explore how we can become better at working across boundaries as performers, writers, producers and other creatives integrating multiple practices and professionals in their work.
