“Maybe the greatest surf adventure of the century.” Nick Carroll, Surfline
Spencer Frost is one of our favourite filmmakers combining epic cinematography, wild adventure and brilliant story telling, and his latest project, the multi-award winning Kamchatka must be the most anticipated surf movie of the year. Spencer, fellow filmmaker Guy Williment and surfers Letty Mortenson and Fraser Dovell journey to the frigid outer reaches of Kamchatka in search of new waves along the frozen, unexplored coastline.
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk with more than 150 volcanoes the Kamchatka Peninsula in Far Eastern Russia is as remote as it is unique.
After 2 years of planning and permit negotiations this was to be the adventure of a lifetime. However, as the trip got under way, Russia invaded Ukraine changing the political landscape and obstacles faced by the team. With Mi-8 helicopters, skidoos, frozen campsites, and frozen bank accounts, this surf journey quickly became far more than anyone could imagine.
