Oak. Meadowsweet. Broom.
Blodeuwedd used to be flowers. Now, she's a woman, married to one of the greatest heros of medieval Wales. She yearns to be something else entirely. And when a chance meeting in the forest shows her a glimpse of an alternative, she begins to question her identity and the structures of the world around her.
Flower Face is an anarcho-queer reimagining of a Welsh legend from the Mabinogion, connecting the trans and nonbinary experience with a world of magic where bodies can be made, transformed and destroyed on the whim of a wizard. It explores the construction of myths: gender, patriarchy, national identity and the body itself.
Recently developed with London Performance Studios as part of their Seeding Space programme, Flower Face is produced by Pushback Theatre, a trans led and centred theatre company that champions new writing and adaptation.
Writer and Director Tabs Benton-Evans is a multidisciplinary theatremaker and writer, and was recently a semifinalist in the European Opera Directing Prize 2025.
