6pm – 6:45pm

Nina Simone: Live in '65 & '68 (1965)

Nina Simone: Live in '65 & '68 features two incredible concerts from 1965 and 1968 showcasing the multifaceted diva in all her glory. Simone shines as a jazz vocalist extraordinaire on ‘Tomorrow Is My Turn,’ as a definitive folk interpreter on Bob Dylan’s ‘The Ballad Of Hollis Brown’ and as a passionate civil rights activist on both the epic ‘Four Women’ and the scorching ‘Mississippi Goddam.’ These recordings are a must for Nina Simone fans as she displays all of the qualities that made her both a supremely gifted jazz singer and pianist as well as the ‘High Priestess of Soul.’

7pm – 8:43pm

Chick Corea Akoustic Band - Münchner Klavier-sommer (1989)

'Münchner Klaviersommer' was an annual concert series that took place from 1981 to 1998 in Munich, Germany. Although the festival's name suggests a strong focus on piano music, it featured countless famous musicians from jazz and classical music – not just pianists. The concerts were usually held in July at The Gasteig, home of the Munich Philharmonic. In 1989, American pianist Armando Anthony "Chick" Corea was one of the artists appearing here. In this concert Corea returned to his roots, performing jazz standards and originals in a stripped-down trio setting of piano, bass and drums. With Dave Weckl (drums) and John Patitucci (bass), this highly interactive trio actually had its beginnings in 1985 with Chick Corea's Elektric Band.
