"...the range of sinuous, explosive, dynamic and controlled movements showed a scope of imagination and choreographic skill..."
Two solos firmly rooted in movement, performativity and curiosity. But what similarities do they echo and share? What are their particular distinctions? Where do they part and where do they come together? Created from different themes and research and with different intentions, will their similarities and particular distinctions and difference help or hinder the performance of them one after the other? Will they belong together, blend or discourse completely from one another and will the performance highlight or distinguish their echoing of the other? Come along and find out for yourself!
Nor I is a solo work based on the use of stillness and repetition in Samuel Beckett’s work. Investigating the impact of repetitions on the human body and its traces in stillness, each movement builds upon the next, yet remains caught in an almost claustrophobic state. Reminiscent of a character in Beckett's texts, it leaves the performer lingering between cosmic calm and cosmic chaos, almost as if caught in her own head, repeatedly finding herself repeating stillness, repeatedly repeating.
Negotiating space is a solo that explores fluids and its affect on the human body when in dysfunction. Focusing on the strands of “no space”, stuck energy, transformation and struggle, the choreography has a repetitious pattern to it, juxtaposing the underling quality of fluidity. Repetitious almost as in a spiralling sense of the urge to completion, to push through the stuck phase to enable transformation into the next. As if spirals are circles trying to complete themselves.
