Doc O'Connor, an ageing, troubled 'Mod,' finds her way to a bus stop in Maida Vale which sits across the street from the cafe where her hero, Paul Weller, has tea at two every day. All is not as it seems, however, when she's forced to confront her tragic past with her younger sister, Lisa. Paul Weller Takes Tea at Two is an emotional yet humorous story about two sisters reconnecting after trauma forced them apart. An homage to the music scene of London in the late 1970's, Doc and Lisa take the audience on a journey through musical history, fan culture, and sisterhood.
Paul Weller Takes Tea at Two is an innovative, surrealist take on topics such as mental health, domestic violence, and familial bonds. We jump between the reality of the bus stop and the broken shards of Doc's mind as we discover what happened to Doc and Lisa that fateful night in 1980. Songs by The Jam play throughout the piece, connecting the show to the gig culture of London in the late 1970s in a visceral and undeniable way.
