SCENE GYM WITH REBECCA BANATVALA

Come flex your acting muscles in SCRUM’s scene gym with Rebecca Banatvala. A weekly drop in class for actors to explore, experiment and delve into text. 

We will hone your craft, keep your acting skills sharp and build your confidence to trust your own creative instincts by:

  • Rehearsing duologues
  • Exploring a mix of contemporary and classical text
  • Receiving and working with direction 

Nothing to prep. Nothing to bring. Turn up and play!

 

Rebecca Banatvala is an actor, writer, teacher and founding member of SCRUM Theatre who trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Rebecca’s theatre credits include: Summerfolk (National Theatre), Much Ado About Nothing (RSC), Autumn (Park Theatre), Northanger Abbey (Orange Tree), Sap (Roundabout and Soho), Rotterdam (UK Tour), Mrs Puntila and Her Man Mutti (Royal Lyceum). TV includes: Eastenders, Grace, Vigil, The Syndicate, Emmerdale and Love, Death and Robots. Films include: Prima Facie and The Princess Switch 3. Radio includes: Snares.

Rebecca's debut full length play A Piece of My Liver was shortlisted for the Tony Craze Award and Tessa Walker is attached to direct. Her second play Aunties in the USSR is currently being developed with Jon Brittain and Soho Theatre. She was part of the first BFI Darkroom cohort (2024), is an alumni of Soho Writers Lab and was also shortlisted for Nisha Parti’s Asian Writer’s Award in conjunction with the BBC. She is also developing work for radio with BBC Studios.

 

WHICH TICKET TIER SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Offering affordable training is at the heart of SCRUM’s charitable objectives, which is why we have different ticket price tiers. We encourage you to pay what you can based on the below descriptors:

£8 - Subsidised ticket price - You have limited expendable income** and need to opt for the lowest cost option. If this cost is still a barrier, please contact SCRUM on [javascript protected email address]

£10 - Subsidised ticket price - You have some expendable income and can meet basic needs, even if there may be occasional financial stress

£12 - Full ticket price - You have a comfortable amount of expendable income, do not face financial barriers and are able to cover the full cost of the event ticket. 

*BASIC NEEDS include food, housing, clothing and transportation.

**EXPENDABLE INCOME might mean you are able to buy coffee or tea at a shop, go to the cinema or a concert, buy new clothes, books and similar items each month, etc.
