Platform

Mon 25 May - Mon 20 Jul 2026

Hideout Theatre presents Platform - three celebratory evenings dedicated to new writing from some of London’s most exciting up-and-coming playwrights. Each Platform event focuses on two newly-written plays.

These evenings include live rehearsed readings from both plays, the sharing of conceptual artwork and sketches, and the opportunity to hear about the processes and development behind the work from the writers themselves.

Join us as we get to know the next generation of London playwrights, and become part of the growing theatre-making community.

BLACK LOVE by Elan Davies

“Sometimes it feels like a black girl gotta be watered down to succeed”

BLACK LOVE follows charming West London native Adeola who is attending Notting Hill Carnival for her first time, which doesn’t quite turnout to be the jubilant experience she wanted it to be. Grappling with a nasty breakup and questionable life decisions, it all comes out after a few cups of Wray’s infused rum punch. Elan Davies explores identity, culture, relationships, and the importance of black joy in this groundbreaking one woman play zinging with music, poetry, art and movement.

Elan Davies is a Welsh–Zambian– award-winning Welsh language actor and emerging writer, rapidly gaining recognition as a rising talent in Wales. She has developed work through the Royal Court’s Plays from ur Note programme, Burnt Orange Theatre’s Zest Residency, and the National Theatre Writing Course. Her short film 'INHERITANCE' is being developed with BAFTA-Winning Director Emily Burnett, with production beginning later this year. Elan is known for multidisciplinary performance and creating work that blends acting, writing, and movement.

A Kind of Silence by Ella McCallum

In the safety of her pottery studio, Grace’s carefully thrown world is unsettled by the sudden arrival of Adam, a man she hasn’t seen in ten years. What begins as a warm reunion slowly spins out of control as the past refuses to stay where she left it.

A Kind of Silence explores power, influence, and the quiet ways we reshape our pasts to survive.

Her writing credits include A KIND OF SILENCE, developed with Broken Silence Theatre’s Hive Programme and selected for Play Dates’ 4th Season New Writing Initiative.
