Someone Has Got to Be John
"And I find they are an extremely frustrated lot of people."
It is the long hot summer of 1969 in London. A sweltering recording session is about to begin. Tensions are high. The next few hours will be immortalised in vinyl - and will take the world by storm.
And also, round the corner, The Beatles are recording their final studio album.
From award-winning Queer/Trans ensemble Speakbeast, Someone Has Got To Be John is a fifty-minute fever-dream exploration of our very weird, very long relationship with the medical institution - as we remember the First International Symposium on Gender Identity of 1969, and gatecrash the 56th. It is about voicemails, unlisted YouTube videos, and footnotes. It is about medical records, Beatles records, and a vinyl record stashed in a suitcase. There will be lip-syncing. There will be extensive discussions of McLennon. There will be a bedazzled lab coat.
And, due to a misunderstanding of copyright law, it will technically, legally, still be a Beatles tribute act.
