Restoring London’s Bridges (Official Selection of the Totally Thames Festival)

Restoring London’s Bridges is a multi-part public engagement programme using immersive technologies to explore the past, present and future of two of London’s most distinctive river crossings: Hammersmith Bridge and Albert Bridge.

Both bridges were designed for light 19th-century traffic but now face major structural challenges, prolonged closures and uncertain futures.

This project uses immersive technology and public conversations with leading engineers and designers to help Londoners understand why Hammersmith and Albert bridges matter, how they reached this point, and the options for their repair, restoration and future role in London’s transport network. Through mixed reality and Web AR experiences, audiences will explore their engineering, history, closures and the choices shaping the future of river crossings.
