Meat Me in Shoreditch
“Bridget Jones goes wrong” – Audience feedback.
Very female, very London, very raw. A single woman in her early thirties decides it might be time to date again. But first, she must be ready. Staying in her room, ordering Greggs takeaway and watching reality TV, she has quietly misplaced everything: her body, her confidence, herself. So begins a journey towards the “ideal” version - new weights, new Sweaty Betty, new diet, new image. It starts sensibly enough. It always does. But this is a show about what happens when the hunger to be seen, desired, and validated is pushed too far. A comic, unsettling, absurdist take on female image, dating and loneliness for audiences of bold new writing.
Created and performed by Valery Reva, this bold new work dives headfirst into the absurdities of modern dating and female identity. Directed by award-winning, working-class queer director and dramaturg Scott Le Crass, this is a striking new voice in London’s new writing scene.
